Let's not grow lazy in investing in our careers.

An artistic career is different: it requires consistent development, hard work and improvement. The amazing thing about creativity is that there is always *more* to learn. Don't be overwhelmed and think 'How will I ever learn it all?!'

Embrace the fact that the pursuit of knowledge is a good thing; we will never be perfect, but it's a complete blessing to be able to continually grow, by practicing our craft.

Here are three ways you can invest in your acting career today.

Upgrade your equipment

A new camera, backdrop/green screen, tripod or editing software for those self-tapes could be invaluable and take your work to the next professional level. So evaluate what equipment you currently possess, work out what you'd need, and then do the work (saving, purchasing, shopping) to bridge that gap.

2. Acting Classes

We all know to keep learning throughout our careers, and yes, I believe some of the best acting lessons will come from hands-on experience on set or during a show, it's always good to brush up on those skills and put some dedicated time into learning acting techniques or going over ones you already know, under the eye of a well-experienced teacher.

3. Skill-building

Start working towards those skills to add to your Spotlight profile. Horse-riding? Dance? Samurai sword fighting? Whatever it is, book some classes, take a short course, get a qualification that'll help you to be confident in saying you can do that skill!

4. Casting director workshops

Casting directors are important. So book some workshops where you can show them what you can do! There are some amazing casting director workshops. Check out Run at It Shouting for upcoming workshops.

---

Now don't get overwhelmed by all these things I'm mentioning. It is better to book one class, one workshop, purchase one small external harddrive to save those self-tapes to, than to think about all of these things, grow overwhelmed and do nothing!

Start small. Think about what next step will be the most useful to you.

Then go out and

...do it!
